Tropical Storm Barry to make landfall soon in eastern Mexico-01

Tropical Storm Barry

Tropical Storm Barry was approaching the eastern Gulf Coast of Mexico on Sunday evening, set to bring heavy rains and flash flooding.

It was located about 60 miles southeast of Tampico, with winds of 45 mph, and moving northwest at 8 mph. Landfall was expected soon, with a tropical storm warning in place for the Gulf Coast from Boca de Catan to Tecolutla.

The storm is not expected to strengthen much before landfall and is likely to weaken after moving inland.

Tropical Storm Barry is expected to bring heavy rainfall and flash flooding to eastern Mexico, particularly in Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, and Tamaulipas.

Rainfall totals could reach between 3 to 6 inches, with some areas possibly getting up to 10 inches. This could lead to dangerous flooding and mudslides, especially in steep areas.

It is the second named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. The NOAA predicts 13 to 19 named storms this year.

Tropical Depression Two has upgraded into Tropical Storm Barry, forming in the Gulf

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Tropical Depression Two to Tropical Storm Barry as of 11 a. m. Sunday.

Barry has formed in the Bay of Campeche and is expected to make landfall on the east coast of Mexico tonight.

This makes Barry the second named storm of the season, with winds reaching 40 mph. Meteorologists are monitoring the storm’s path due to concerns about heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Residents along the east coast of Mexico are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as Barry is likely to hit land late Sunday or early Monday.
